Let me first introduce myself, my name is Heba, and I am from Egypt. I love cooking, baking, singing, and gardening. I did my bachelor’s degree in Sociology, and now I am studying for a master’s degree in science for  sustainable development at Linkoping University. I had a dream 5 years ago to study in Sweden, it was when I first dreamed about it was even hard to dream.  Sorry I know I am repeating the word ”DREAM” too much, but that is because it was really THE BIGGEST AND HARDEST DREAM!

My first flight ticket to Sweden, back in 2016!

My dream started when I visited Sweden in 2016, I just fell in love with it, how it was very organized, how it was just beautiful, how people are so friendly and helpful, how it is so diverse and how it is so sustainable country. I felt somehow, I belong to this part of the world. The first-hand experience with Sweden was very special to me.
In 2018 I decided to travel again to Sweden, as it called me to a reunion with its nature. For the second time, and for the secondhand experience, I felt the same feelings. Nature was so special; the freedom and the life balance concept were the things that called me to come back. Since then, I have confirmed my decision to travel again! I was thinking to pursue my master’s studies abroad. I would not find a country better than Sweden by any means, not because I fell in love with it, but that was because I wanted to study sustainable development and Sweden is considered as one of the top sustainable countries in the world.

This photo was at Stockholm Public Library.

Being an Egyptian and Muslim girl wanted to travel and study abroad was not an easy decision at all, I had to convince my family, I had to have a clear vision and plan of what exactly I want to gain from studying abroad, and I had to finance my travel and all studies and living expenses. But because my dream was big and true! I did it and beat all the challenges. Now I am here, in Sweden, doing my studies and enjoying my new life with all its challenges, ups, and downs!

A mosque in Stockholm!

I went through the whole process, from the university and the program requirements to the residence permit requirement. It took me 5 years to achieve this dream because I had other personal challenges and family commitments, and when I confirmed my decision, it made me strong enough to overcome all the obstacles and to be in Sweden and to write to you all now as MY DREAM CAME TRUE!

First day at Linköping university!
