A few weeks ago, when the weather was still warm and university hadn’t even started yet, a friend and I decided to embark on a little day trip to Norrköping.

Norrköping is the perfect destination for when you want to explore a new city but don’t want to sit in the train all day to get there! It only takes 27 minutes to reach Norrköping Resecentrum (central station) by train, for which you can easily book tickets with the ÖstgötaTrafiken app. You can also take advantage of the campus bus throughout the week, it is free for LiU students and extremely convenient. Just don’t forget to bring your activated LiU card to show on the bus!

When you leave the train station, and cross the street, you’ll walk right into Carl Johan’s park. (Where they, fun fact, plant a different motif with cacti every year.) And in summer you can grab some ice cram there as well.

Strolling around, we reached the museum of work (Arbetets museum) which is definitely worth visiting. The museum is actually a former mill, and now they have some interesting exhibitions about the history of work and everyday life. There, we also grabbed some lunch at one of the cafés nearby.

In case you like second hand shopping, there is a pretty big “Myrorna” in Norrköping, that has some different stuff from the one you can find in Linköping (esp. paintings and mirrors)!

You should also check out Campus Norrköping, its location right by the water is stunning and maybe also a welcome change fromCampus Valla.

The falls and rapids were once actually used as mills and are pretty impressive, especially when you walk by them at night and you can see the reflection of the buildings on the water.

Finally, after soaking up the sun all day, we were invited to dinner at some of our friends’ place, where we enjoyed pita and veggies and hand crafted cookies n’cream ice cream, before making our way back to Linköping.
