Let’s face it: It’s scary to go to the doctors in a country that is not your own. You don’t speak the language, and you don’t know how the system works. With the global pandemic, you might find yourself wanting to get tested for covid-19. But how do you do it?

Like many things in Sweden, also the appointment for a covid test is booked online. Even though, you might also have the option to call your ‘Vårdcentral’ (health center) to ask for a test, they generally prefer that you book it yourself. Here I present you a step-by-step guide for booking your covid-19 test online. I myself have done this test two times so far, it was very fast and it was fortunately negative.

  1. Go to https://www.1177.se/Ostergotland/ and log in. 1177.se is the webpage where you can access all the health services. I usually log in by entering the Mobilt Bank-ID. If you don’t have the Mobilt Bank-ID, get it!! It will make your life in Sweden so much easier. Once you are logged in, you find a lot of options on the webpage. The webpage is only in Swedish, which is why I usually use the ‘google translate’ function to translate the webpage to my native language.
  2. Okay, so if you want to do a covid test, you first have to order one. But don’t worry you don’t actually have to pay for it. You do this under the rubric ‘Regionen rekommenderar’ where you click on ‘Provtaging covid-19 Östergötland’.
  3. This opens a new window where you click on ‘Ny Beställning’ (new order).
  4. Under ny beställning you click ‘Provtagning covid 19 Östergötland’, enter ‘nästa’ (next), put your mobile number and then click ‘slutför beställningen’ (complete the order). Now you have successfully ordered your test. But wait! That’s not all. This was only the first step.
  5. Now we actually come to the point to book an appointment at one of the testing centers in Linköping. For booking the appointment you click on ‘Provtagning  covid-19 Linköping’ under the rubric ‘Mottagningar’. Then click on ‘Boka tid direkt’ and choose one of the testing centers which suits you best. For most of the students, the one in Ryd is the closest option, but there are also testing centers at Linköping airport and in the university hospital. When you choose your testing center, free dates and times are displayed, that you can then book. Generally, only the next two days are able to choose. Confirm your choice and that’s it. Now you only have to go to the test center at the time of your appointment, wait in front of it, and wait until they call your name. The testing itself is super fast, and if it’s the first time you’re getting tested, they explain the procedure.  In case you need to cancel your appointment again, you can also do that under ‘Provatgning covid-19 Linköping’ >’Av/omboka tid direkt’.

I hope this guide could help you a little bit and take you the fear of getting tested in Linköping.

Stay safe,

Katharina
