How is the  Master of Outdoor and Sustainability Education during a Covid-19 pandemic?

Many people asked me do we still have outdoor classes or not?

Sadly, at this term (started from January- now) we spend most of our time online. So, of course, it is a big change for the lecture to deliver and facilitate our learning process through zoom. However, we should adaptive and carry on our awareness about the situation. This term, I learned about Method and Research Process through qualitative and quantitative research. The lecture really opens for discussion and helps us to construct our understanding of the theoretical background, method of research, analysis data, and preparing for our future thesis. We did a lot of discussion through the breakout room, and my lecture tried to create games and visual demonstrations to explain the topic.

It was interesting that in January one of our lectures said that we will have a class outside. On that day the weather was cold and snow.  But it was not stopped us to have class outside.  Of course, we need to prepare for the right clothes and follow the distance recommendation. I remember walked from my place in Ryd to Valla forest together with my friends. Usually, it takes only 20-30 minutes and because of heavy snow, it took 15 minutes more to arrive in the forest. The forest was so beautiful cover up all with white soft snow and of course, it was so great to see familiar faces and know that all of them in great condition.

My lecture conduct the outdoor learning for us to understand how to collect the data and later process it together in a quantitative way. We followed the instruction and divide it into a smaller group consisting of three people. Our lecture prepared for the firewood, so we never feel too cold. The class lasts for around two hours, and I can say that I enjoy a lot the process. We construct our understanding better when we really experience the process and I personally missing so much for an outdoor class.

For some of you who interest to have a short course in outdoor education and basic skill of outdoor activities, Linköping University has a course called

Outdoor Education Oriented towards Leisure Time and Outdoor Activities of Children and Youth (7.5 credit)
