Hej, hej 🙂

It is the beginning of yet another semester. For me personally, this is the last semester as a master student here at Linköping University in Sweden. The end of my journey as a master student of Experimental and Medical Biosciences is on the horizon and I have 3 last courses to pass before embarking on the new adventure. Happily, my adventure will continue here in this small but beautiful city located in the heart of Sweden.
In today’s post, I will write about 3 Swedish food products without which I can’t imagine my breakfast/dinner 😀 Recently couple of my colleagues wrote about food including vegan-friendly options or how to prepare a Portuguese dessert – I thought why not to go a bit more in that direction and write about food products that are pretty common yet super intriguing taste-wise. This is just my list of top 3 products and I am sure there are plenty of them waiting for me to try them, hence if you have any suggestions – leave them in the comment section below! 🙂

1. SENAPS SILL & SKÄRGÅRDS SILL
fish, fish, and even more fish for this sea-food lover. Honestly, I love seafood but I always have avoided the fridge with weird sea-food products primarily because I was not quite sure what I am buying, and as a student, I don’t want to waste money on food that I don’t like. However, my friend recently made a traditional Swedish Christmas dinner and on the table, I found this little thing called Senaps sill.
What is actually Senaps Sill? A herring fish in a special mustard marinade (in my opinion a very sweet & tastebuds provoking one!) I tried a small amount of the marinade alone and I didn’t like it at all. It was too much for my taste. Then to my surprise, I realized there is a fish inside and I thought why not try it but this time together with fish. Result? Super rich taste of fish with mustard complementing each other so well. Thank you, G. for revealing to me one of the weirder things I’ve tried 🙂 I highly suggest you try it. You can buy it in COOP for less than 200kr.

2. APELSIN & MOROT MERMELAD
A breakfast without marmalade is like winter without snow. Winter can pass without snow, but you always have that feeling that something is missing.
Last year I bought an apple/chilli home-made marmalade on the Christmas Market and it was one of the best marmalades I’ve tried here (my grandma’s marmalade is still THE BEST! 🙂 ) This winter I decided to experiment with different tastes and producers and this one is my favourite.
A beautiful combination of carrot and orange! Bonus+ it actually has small peaces of carrot and orange inside for super sweet and peppery taste. Again – you can find it in COOP and it costs around 250kr.

3. KARDEMUMMABULLE
Coffee is indeed my drink to go almost always, but what about fikabrot? My favourite fikabrot is not a cinnamon bun (sorry! to all cinnamon bun lovers), but instead this little one – CARDAMON BUN! With cardamon spice (stemming from the ginger family) as a dominant flavour, it is my pastry of choice always! Try it and you can see for yourself that after this one, the cinnamon bun will become your second favourite option.

BON APPETIT!
