Hi everyone,

Living in a student apartment of Studentböstader is so cool!

Let me clarify, Studentböstader is the student housing company in Linköping, Sweden, where you can get accommodation, as a student. Now, some of you may look at me angrily and say, really Maria, accommodation in Sweden is cool? Yeah, well give me a chance to explain myself. The big problem is that in Sweden in most cases, there are housing companies, in which people have to queue and each day is a point. When they release apartments, the person with the most queue points will get an offer. The housing company is giving the chance to look at the apartment and then there are a few days to think about whether someone will accept it or not, it is possible even to accept or decline an offer without looking at the apartment or corridor room. All this work can be done online and it is highly suggested if you are thinking to study in Linköping to already create your account on the website to start collecting queue points.

As you can imagine, it is highly competitive and it is quite hard for international students to get an offer sometimes as there are so many Swedish residents or citizens that know the system and have already registered years ago. In this case, as soon as you find out about this system here in Sweden take a few moments and take care of your account. Even a few days or months can make a difference! The other thing that I love about this system is that everything comes in one bill, therefore, the rent, electricity, water, and Internet are included. This is quite convenient, honestly, because it reduces the stress to keep up with bills. Last but not least, and this is really the good stuff, there is a regulation that students are not paying rent during the months of June and July, so basically the contract is 10 months instead of 12. Of course, you still have your accommodation secured all year long! This practice means that the rent is monthly a little bit less than we think since there is free accommodation for two months, and this is quite cool, don’t you think?

Let me know if you found this information useful and hope to see you somewhere around Linköping!

All the best,

Maria
