Hello all! It’s Hela here narrating the second year experience of the SMIO programme. At this stage, you can choose among three different courses before starting the master thesis.

This year the options were:

  1. Advanced Consumer Marketing
  2. Innovation and Project Management
  3. DAMD project – SUGAR Network

(Click in these options to know more about the courses!)

Each course is very different, not only because of the diverse topics but also due to the study style and course plan. So my personal suggestion here is to do what you truly like.

According to my SMIO classmates the Advance Consumer Marketing course it’s full of statistics and new data management systems. It’s all about consumer-centric analysis and then you will be encouraged to solve some marketing cases.

On the other hand, my classmates that are currently doing the Innovation and Project Management course, tell me that the course is very theoretical and basically it’s up to you to do academic research. Here you will be introduced to the Master Thesis Proposal that will start at the beginning of the next year.

I highly recommend that you look for a study partner since the beginning of your master studies. Cooperation, teamwork and work in pairs are always constant in all SMIO courses. And the master thesis it’s a pair work, so choose well your perfect thesis partner match!

Now, I’m currently studying the DAMD project or SUGAR Network. This is a multidisciplinary project with several universities and companies worldwide. It’s a design thinking process that it’s more practical to solve current business challenges and explore new opportunities. My personal experience with this project so far has been fantastic. We are collaborating with a German university specialized in systems engineering and informatics. And the challenge of our corporate partner it’s inspiring! We have to come up with a solution for fake news and deepfakes, which is quite ambitious.

Here is my team pic! (In Covid-19 times)

Lastly, I will like to share some study advice from LiU. Developing a good routine and study strategy is vital to do your best at any course that you may choose. Here you can find some nice guidelines and advice: Study technique

That’s all for all folks! Hej då!
