Hello to all future students of Science for Sustainable Development,

In the 3rd semester in which I am in right now, you will be able to choose elective courses. Studying Science for sustainable development gives you a pretty broad specturm on what you can focus on in the future. Therefore, you also have a lot of different choices for elective courses. For this reason, my classmates and I are all scattered in different courses. While some do courses in migration, GIS, climate change visualization or feminism, others do internships with different agencies and companies.

Here I would like to present my elective courses which are ‘InGenious’ and ‘Documentary Film, History, Theory and Practice: Working with the Real’. As this blog post would get quite long I will write about InGenious here and about Documentary Filmmaking in my next blog post.

InGenious

‘InGenious’ is a cooperation between Linköping University and InGenious East Sweden. In this course, problem-based learning is promoted. This means that you get a real-life challenge that is related to the sustainable development goals. Then, together with your interdisciplinary team of about 5 people you develop a solution for the problem. The challenges come from the private and public sectors. For this year, challenge providers are Region Östergötland, Linköping municipality and Östgötatrafiken to name a few.

My team is working with the challenge by the municipality of Linköping to promote the sustainable transformation of the transport sector in Linköping. The aim of the municpality is to be carbon neutral until 2030. Therefore, they are going to implement Mobility-as-a-Service which implies the combination of different means of transport such as electric bicycles, buses, carpools, etc. Our task is to develop a solution on how to motivate poeple to use the new service.

Our challenge is really interesting and I have learned a lot about sustainable entrepreneurship so far. As part of the course, you also get really good pitch training. This means that you learn how to sell an idea in 3 to 5 minutes. I can definitely recommend the course for people interested in social entrepreneurship.
