While life in Sweden can be quite pricy, there are some things you can do to keep your costs low and that are fun at the same time (at least for me).

Since I moved to Linköping last year, I started making my own jam. There are many public fruit trees in Linköping, so keep your eyes open. I basically use any seasonal fruits that I can find such plums, pears, sour cheeries, and apples. The funny thing is now I wonder why I have not always done it, because:

It is super easy.

It tastes delicious.

 You know what is inside.

It is quite sustainable.

So, here comes my simple recipe for apple-cinnamon jam (there are more explained versions in the web).

You need apples. I got some from Gamla Linköping. They have lots of apple trees and put some baskets outside in the autumn where you can take apples for free.

Now you peel them, cut them, add a bit of lemon juice, and cook them with cinnamon until they are soft.

Then you mix them, and add the preserving sugar (ratio 2:1- half the sugar than fruits).

Now you put them in clean glas containers, close them and let them cool down.

And that’s it. Easy, right?
