” There will be time for everything, don’t ever give up”

That is the value that my parents say to remind me when I feel confused and worry about something. 3 years ago, exactly one year after finished my study, I said to myself that I want to continue my master’s degree. I was working at school at that time as a primary teacher. My life is beautiful, I choose to move from big-city Jakarta and worked in Bali. A paradise island where people spend most of their time on holiday, with good food, mountain, and beach at the same time. However, I still feel that my knowledge from my past education on Psychology was not enough. I need to study more and deeper about education, and so I start my research about the program.

For a long time, I know that I interested in 4 things; first children’s development, second education, third well-being, and four in sustainability. Thus become my keywords to find a master’s program in line with my passion. Moreover, the country where I learn is important. I am searching for a country that focuses on holistic education and maintains the well-being of the citizen. Then, I decided just to focus only on Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Norway, Iceland, and Sweden). It was so funny when all my friends asked how I will survive in the country so far and totally different from my country. Then I always say, “Why not?”

So, I started with reading and listened to a lot of websites about how to study and living abroad, discussed with my senior and friends, attended several education fairs and seminars, and searching about the master programs through the internet. Honestly, it was so weird that my interest in Linköping University starts at the beginning of my research, which starts from 3 years ago. However, I am not sure about my ability and knowledge to join the master’s program at that time. Then for some time during working in the school, I reflected on my teaching journey and the fact that interaction between nature and children is important but it is significantly decreased.  Once again, I was searching for the master’s program and I found “Master of Outdoor and Sustainability Education at Linköping University”.

There are several reasons why I want to study about Outdoor and Sustainability Education program at Linköping University.

First, I choose this program because it is very specific to two aspects (outdoor education and sustainability) that I believe it is important for the education movement in the future.

Second, the aim of the program focusing not only on the scientific side but also on practical knowledge, and most of the teaching method used in this program based on the experience approach.

Third, who doesn’t want to experience life and study in Sweden, a country that gives the opportunity to reconnect with nature and have a work-life balance lifestyle.

Then after almost two years working in the school, I decided to quit and focus on preparation. I prepared all the required documents, apply for the scholarship, and at the same time working part-time as a school counselor for one year. In the end, I am a master’s student and received a full scholarship from Linköping  University. Of course, I believe that every people have their own way to achieve their goal in life.

Never give up and enjoy every single moment you have.

My flight from Indonesia-Sweden took more than 20 hours and a mandatory procedure with mask and face shield due to the Covid-19.
